Autism Service

I have heard often about Autism, Depression and ADHD, the mental health problems. Since I started Health Science Academy in 9th grade, I became obsessed with researching different diseases. When I learned about Little Shepherd’s mission—offering respite to autistic children and their parents—I immediately thought about inviting GKT members to serve them. We first joined their service on the third Saturday of April 2024 with 7-8 members and continued participating every month for 7 months. What we did was accompany the assigned autistic children—playing games with them, reading books together, and running around. I had the privilege of teaching 3 autistic kids playing drums —so their parents could have three hours of respite to join social interactions, craft groups, or other recreational activities.

This experience provided us with a great chance to witness how difficult it is for families to care for children with autism, and to understand how stressful and challenging their daily lives can be.

Even more, I treasure the good life I have and appreciate my parents’ hard work in providing us with such precious living and learning opportunities.
