On July 20, 2025, our GKT volunteers visited The Park in Plano rehab center, bringing care and joy to everyone. Our leaders, Ruiheng Yan, Christine, and Claire, planned the performance and process for today’s event.
The first performance was a vibrant display that caught our eyes — the Filipino Amihan dance by the Amihan dance group. The performers dressed in authentic traditional Filipino costumes dance to the rhythmic folk music, which is full of energy and natural atmosphere. Everyone was amazed by this unique performance. Then, there was the wonderful music performance by the young volunteers. From elegant dances to charming songs to gorgeous instrumental solos, each young volunteer showcased their individual talents.
In the final performance, the Texas Taichi group demonstrated the traditional Chinese culture of Tai Chi, which cultivates the mind and calms the soul. This brought a stunning finishing touch to our performance. As one of the masterpieces of the United Nations' Intangible Cultural Heritage, Tai Chi is widely used in fitness and health preservation, and has a positive impact on both physical and mental health. Due to the benefits of Tai Chi, we encouraged the elderly to participate in Tai Chi activities with the North Dallas Taichi Group, experiencing the rich Chinese culture altogether.
After this wonderful performance, our leadership team gained many new experiences, including creating sign-up sheets, arranging performances, and handling post-event cleanup and coordination. We gained a deeper understanding of the challenges leaders face when planning and overseeing an event. Despite this, we firmly believe that we can overcome difficulties and gradually become proficient in the role of leadership.
